Stunning scenery. Majestic mountains. Adrenaline-fueled adventures. Switzerland is famous for its incredible landscapes, delectable dairy, and abundance of activities for adrenaline junkies and environmental admirers alike. It is a popular vacation destination for students, families, couples, and solo travelers – for a good reason!

With abundant color and picture-postcard landscapes around every turn, Switzerland has earned its title as one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Green, rolling hills meet snow-capped mountains and crystal-clear rivers meander through picturesque valleys everywhere you look. As such, Switzerland has become a top-rated holiday destination for travelers worldwide. The warm temperatures, vivid colors, and abundance of unique natural features mean there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Situated between two glistening lakes and at the gateway to the Alps, Interlaken is known worldwide as the adventure capital of Europe!

Everything is available, from the budding adventurer’s activities in the air to the ground and water. Its central location makes it a great starting point or midpoint for travelers seeking adventure after soaking up the charm of nearby Luzern’s Old Town or visiting Montreaux’s famous Jazz Festival. A stone’s throw from Interlaken, nestled in the heart of the Alps, are the quaint villages of Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald, boasting dramatic mountainous backdrops and unique mountain experiences.

Whether you like to be constantly on the go or prefer to appreciate things more relaxedly, we have compiled a list of some of our favorite summer activities in Switzerland:

1. For views like no other and a hit of adrenaline, we recommend helicopter skydiving in Interlaken!

With every helicopter skydive offering a unique 3-in-1 experience of a scenic helicopter flight, incredible extended freefall, and exhilarating parachute flight down to the valley below, this is a great value experience and one to tick off your bucket list. Switzerland has some of the most beautiful scenery anywhere in the world, so if you’ve wanted to do this, what’s stopping you?! From the helicopter, you will experience unparalleled views over snow-capped mountains and vivid blue lakes from a unique perspective in the sky. Then, take a deep breath as you step out onto the helicopter skid with your professional instructor and plunge towards the valley below. The views improve as you freefall, offering ever-changing views of the mountains and ridges as you approach the ground. Then, sail gracefully under the canopy to touch down in the grass.

2. If freefall isn’t your thing, choose a scenic helicopter flight

The scenic flight offers extraordinary views of the incredible valleys, mountains, and glaciers surrounding Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen. Soar like a bird over knife-edge ridges and past tumbling glaciers, getting close to areas impossible to reach on foot or by road. With their vast panoramic windows, helicopters give the best view possible in all directions – watch the mountains pass by below you as you climb past their peaks and soar over ridges. Different options take different routes – choose to fly over glaciers, lakes, and past famous mountain peaks. Maybe you’ll even spot some brave climbers tackling the North Face of the Eiger!

3. You can’t visit Switzerland without getting close to the Swiss Alps

The Jungfrau Region is right in the heart of Switzerland and easily reachable from Zürich, Luzern, Geneva, Bern, and Basel. Why not visit the world-famous Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe? This stunning landmark is home to Europe’s highest train station and the starting point of Europe’s longest glacier, the Aletsch Glacier. Walk through the Ice Cavern and explore the numerous tunnels and lookout points. On a clear day, you will have unbeatable panoramic views across Switzerland and even into Germany! There are also shops and restaurants to satisfy your hunger and thirst after taking in the experience at 3,463m above sea level.

4.Have you ever wanted to try skiing? It isn’t just a winter sport

Some resorts in Switzerland have snow all year around due to their high altitude. Visit Zermatt with the famous Matterhorn or Saas Fee, where glaciers allow permanent snow. Skimming on these glaciers in the warm summer sun is usually possible in the mornings. Take on Saas Fee’s freestyle park in the morning, then tackle one of the numerous hiking trails in the area in the afternoon! The region is scattered with clear alpine lakes with trails suited to all fitness levels in easy access from both towns.

5. Did you know you could taste the Mediterranean without leaving Switzerland?

While the country is landlocked, that doesn’t stop Switzerland from embracing the Mediterranean atmosphere in its southern cantons. Visit Ascona on the shore of Lake Maggiore, at the southernmost tip of Switzerland, to experience Switzerland’s version of seafront summer life. Stroll down the promenade and stop at one of the many cafes and restaurants before checking out the weekly market in the town center.

6. Switzerland is home to some of the largest cave systems in Europe!

Why not explore the cascading waterfalls, magical grottos, and imposing stalactites and stalagmites inside the Beatus Caves? A short distance from Interlaken, this cave system is one of the largest in Europe and one of the few in Switzerland open to the public. With one kilometer of the cave secured and open to tourists, you can escape the summer heat (a constant 8-10 degrees inside the caves, even in summer) and learn about the forces of nature at play to create the caverns and grottos. Another fascinating cave system to visit is the Höllgrotten in Baar. These dripstone caves are located in the Lorze ravine and are famous for their unique formations created over thousands of years. The Höllgrotten caves are well-lit and easily accessible, making them an excellent destination for families and adventurers alike.

7. Hiking is extremely popular in Switzerland

With more than 65,000km of marked hiking trails across the country. The hike from Grindelwald First to Bachalpsee takes about two hours, and along the way, you will be treated to incredible views over the Alps. You will never forget the fantastic vista across the lake, with the snowy mountains reflected in the pristine water. Whether you want a leisurely stroll along bubbling brooks in Unterseen or a challenging hike to rewarding viewpoints, it is all possible in Interlaken!

By visiting these best summer destinations in Switzerland, you can experience various Swiss Alps summer activities that cater to different interests and fitness levels. Take advantage of the opportunity to explore the Jungfraujoch Top of Europe tour or enjoy summer skiing in Zermatt and Saas Fee summer skiing. For hiking enthusiasts, the Grindelwald hiking trails offer breathtaking views and unforgettable experiences.

Enjoy your summer adventure in Switzerland!

What is the best weather for skydiving? The most popular question we get here at Skydive Interlaken! This is because everyone’s skydiving dream depends on one thing, you guessed it – the weather. In this article, we will do our best to explain the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to skydiving and different weather patterns.

Our dropzone is located one of the most beautiful places in the world – the Swiss Alps! Alpine climates have rapidly changeable weather which is extremely hard to predict – even for professionals. Weather apps are totally unreliable, and should not be used to determine whether or not we will skydive on a particular day. Here at Skydive Interlaken, we can jump on most days of the year, and the different types of weather can make the landscape even more diverse and exciting. Therefore, if you are interested in booking, don’t bother checking the weather apps – just book! If we are certain that you will not be able to skydive due to weather we will contact you the day before to keep you informed.

The Good…

Blue skies (and no wind)
A skydivers dream. Blue skies (and no wind) make the day of skydiving stress-free. No need to worry about the weather coming in and slowing us down; we can just jump and enjoy the sunshine! When you see blue skies, and no wind – you will have no problems skydiving on this day.

Blue skies and some clouds
Blue skies with a few clouds around actually make the experience even more exciting! So if you see a few fluffy clouds around on the day of your jump, don’t worry, they will make your experience even more interesting.

The bad…

Wind

Strong winds are bad news for skydivers. High winds can push a parachute into places that skydivers really should not be – like over the town, lake or mountains. And even if the parachutes are able to make it back to the landing area, a strong wind can give a very dramatic backwards landing – so jumping in too much wind is a no-go!

Fog
A fog layer can look beautiful from the top! But again, can make things difficult for skydiving. The helicopter can usually find its way above the fog layer, but then we can’t see the ground – which can be a problem if we want to land safely back on the dropzone. We don’t carry a GPS and neither do the helicopter pilots, so if there is fog then we will wait until it clears.

Rain/Snow
Flying in the rain/snow sounds like fun! But unfortunately, if a parachute gets saturated with water when flying, it can get too heavy, and stall, which means the parachute (and the skydivers attached) will fall out of the sky… not ideal! So, any type of rain system, whether it be a small shower or a lightning storm is an absolute no-go for skydiving.

And the Ugly (but also beautiful?)…

Föhn

An added danger here in the Alps is a very strong, warm wind called the Föhn (in English it translates to “hairdryer”). Caused by a large pressure difference between the two sides of the Alps (Lugano and Zurich), this weather creates beautiful lenticular clouds (see below image), and the air feels warm – but can be absolutely deadly for those who fly.

In this type of weather system, the wind can go from 0 to 150km/h within a minute, so you can understand why this is the most dangerous type of weather for us skydivers. When the Föhn is high, we usually keep our feet firmly on the ground.

Here at Skydive Interlaken, our number 1 priority is safety! We have been jumping in this exact spot for 20 years, so it is safe to say we know this area and the different weather patterns well. This means, you never have to worry about the weather or your safety when you come to skydive with us.

If you would like to see what the weather is doing right now, you can always check out our live webcams here.

For more details about Interlaken, check out our website.

Not up for something as extreme as skydiving? Why not take a relaxing helicopter scenic flight instead! Get a taste of the Swiss Alps from above, in pure comfort – without the rush of adrenalin.

Here in Interlaken, we are extremely lucky to have such a diverse landscape, with many different attractions and natural wonders right on our doorstep. Because the area is so widespread, the easiest and most relaxing way to see many of these attractions are from the sky in a helicopter.

The helicopters ability to hover makes it possible to navigate these wild landscapes in the greatest of comfort and safety. The huge 360-degree panoramic view allows us to get up close and personal with glaciers, waterfalls, valleys, and mountain summits.

This experience has the whole family in mind! Whether you are disabled, old or young (from 3 years) a scenic helicopter flight can be one of the greatest experiences of your life.

Let’s take a look at some of the most popular sights:

The famous trio Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau

Jungfraujoch or as you might know it “Top of Europe” is one of the most famous attractions in Switzerland.

Whether you choose to visit the largest glacier in Europe, swoop over the world-famous Alpine trio of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, skim across beautiful Alpine lakes or hover over mountain valleys we can help you and your family explore the most fascinating corners of Switzerland in comfort and style!

best places for skydiving

Skydive Dubai – The Palm

This popular destination is known for its incredible drop zone. Located within the city of Dubai, the highlight of a tandem experience here is the stunning view of the iconic Palm Jumeirah island from 13,000 ft.

Skydiving in Queenstown, New Zealand

Queenstown is famously known for adventure and beautiful landscapes, it is a very popular holiday destination in both summer and winter. Although this is not the cheapest skydive in the world, this high-altitude jump will surely blow your mind. Jumping from 23,000ft next to the highest peak in the world has to be extremely special! Best skydive in the world

Skydive Geronimo Rottnest, Australia

Located just 19kms off the coast of Fremantle, Rottnest Island has been described as Perth’s island paradise. Western Australia’s coast is absolutely breathtaking and you will get a great view of it from 15,000ft with Skydive Geronimo.

Skydiving in Interlaken, Switzerland

Here at Skydive Interlaken we offer three different jumps. Our most popular is over the beautiful Interlaken, one of the best holiday destinations for adventure seekers in both summer and winter. You first take a luxurious helicopter scenic flight with a breathtaking view of the Swiss Alps and of course the famous Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. At 14,000ft the door will open and you find yourself standing on the skit of the helicopter! The feeling of your feet leaving the helicopter is one of the best feelings in the world, it is really an experience you will cherish for the rest of your life.

Thinking about trying skydiving for the first time? Here are some things you might experience when you jump, and also some skydiving testimonials so you can learn more about it. Just a quick reminder: skydiving is when you jump off a helicopter or airplane from 14’000ft, freefall about 45 seconds and then open the parachute. Pretty exciting, right?

Ok, so back to the way skydiving will make you feel. Skydiving is super safe – and you know that – but you will still feel a little nervous and wondering why you decided to jump out of a perfectly good helicopter. But the slight nervousness is normal, and as soon as you are in freefall the adrenalin kicks in – you won’t be able to wipe the smile from your face.

When you jump off, most people think is common to feel something in your stomach, like in the roller coaster, but that’s not something you will feel.

The first thing you’ll notice is how strong the wind feels on your body and how loud it sounds. You might also notice the temperature change, the air feels much cooler when you are free-falling through it (keep in mind that you’ll be wearing a jumpsuit so you won’t be freezing). You’ll also have that feeling of flying. Yes, that magical feeling that we always dream about happens during skydiving. When the parachute is open, you’ll feel the change in speed from 200mph to 30mph, and this is when you’ll relax and enjoy the view.

Here is a review we received in TripAdvisor that can resume what you’ll get jumping with us:

“We did the scenic helicopter route and tandem skydiving back in October, such an amazing experience! The team taking care of us was very professional, reassuring – and hilarious! We had so much fun. Also, since you’re spending a lot of time in the air be sure to enjoy the view, it’s absolutely stunning. Mountains covered in snow and completely turquoise lakes. You can barely believe it’s real! Thanks a lot for this incredible experience! Can’t recommend enough”.

If you want to read more reviews about the experiences we offer, take a look at our TripAdvisor page. You can also check out this helicopter Skydiving video that our crew filmed:

One of our most popular questions here at Skydive Interlaken is about safety. For a first time skydiver, jumping from a helicopter and freefalling from 14,000ft can seem out of control! But it is quite the opposite. Statistics show us that a person is more likely to win the lottery or get struck by lightening than die from a tandem skydive. If we still haven’t convinced you, then read below the 5 reasons why skydiving is safe for you.

5-reasons-why-skydiving-is-safe

1. The Equipment

The first recorded free fall jump is credited to Leslie Irvin in 1919 and the earliest competitive skydives date back to the 1930’s. Skydiving became much more mainstream once the military began developing parachute technology and used the act of skydiving as a tactical move during World War II. The sport has come a long way since the days of military jumping with round parachutes where the wind would determine where you would land!

The tandem equipment that is used today for skydiving has been continuously developed and improved for over 40 years. One of the most important safety innovations considered in skydiving was the invention of a life saving device called the AAD which brings us to our next point.

2. The AAD

As mentioned above, the invention of the AAD is recognized as the most important of these safety innovations in skydiving history. An AAD (automatic activation device), is a small device which monitors air pressure and speed and when things are not going to plan (you don’t have a parachute open at a certain altitude), this device will immediately release the reserve parachute. Having an AAD means that it is not possible for anyone to not impact the ground without a parachute.

3. The Instructors

Skydiving tandem instructors have to be put through intensive training before getting qualified. In Switzerland the regulations are high and Skydive Interlaken is an official member of the Swiss Skydive Federation.

4. The Helicopter

Helicopter flying is extremely safe, especially in Switzerland. This is due to the amount of hours pilots fly, in and around obstacles with long lines collecting supplies, grass and even sometimes cows!

5. Standards and Rule Enforcement

Skydive Interlaken is part of the Swiss Skydive Federation which means we have certain standards to keep up with and are audited regularly. We believe this is important for the safety of both our instructors and passengers. If you want to know more about the Swiss Federation you can check out their website here.

Jumping from a helicopter is perfect for big groups! Why? Let us explain!

Five people can fit inside our helicopter, one pilot, two passengers (you and one other friend), and two tandem instructors. Although skydiving from an aeroplane will fit more of your group inside – it doesn’t mean you’ll be experiencing much of this incredible journey together. This is because once you’re in the helicopter or aeroplane – skydiving becomes a one-on-one experience with your instructor – until you land again!

As we’ll explain in more details in this article, not only do we have the perfect facility to accommodate your group, but skydiving from the helicopter means you’ll get to experience a lot more together! Oh, and if you’re interested in finding out more reasons why the helicopter skydiving is superior to the aeroplane check out our blog here!

Group Bookings Skydive InterlakenOur Facility

Our comfortable, spacious facility means we have plenty of room for groups. We have a large table upstairs for your food and drinks, a children’s play area, as well as a coffee machine, restroom facilities and a large TV with space for everyone to enjoy the video of the jumps.

Watch your friends exit the helicopter & land!

Our building is located right next to the landing field, so all you have to do is walk outside, look up to the sky and watch your friend exit the helicopter, then get your phone out to record their reaction as they come into land safely on the grassy field in front of you! An aeroplane skydive wouldn’t allow this, because all of you would be landing at relatively similar times and this means you’ll miss out on their reactions!

Check out the Jump on the big screen

Seeing as we can’t be together in freefall anyway, the best thing is to capture it on video! Once your friend has landed we will replay the whole jump on our large TV located downstairs for the whole group’s entertainment.

Now it’s your turn to jump!

Not keen on jumping? No problem, you’re welcome to just relax and enjoy watching your friends experience!

Otherwise, let’s go and we switch roles and your friends are now watching you. With the helicopter we jump easily for example a group of 12 people in two hours. For the planning there is no time disadvantage to the airplane. Your advantage with us, however, is that you can experience and see all emotions from your colleagues, you have already seen the videos and also received them. To be able to share and experience the emotions in this way creates an incredibly good and fun atmosphere.

So whether you want to organize a bachelor party, a corporate event or team event, or just a private trip with a larger group, we are the perfect partner for you. We are also happy to organize your aperitif, contact us without any obligation. We guarantee you an unforgettable experience, great atmosphere and a fun day for all!

Ever seen those incredible guys in the “squirrel suits” and thought, “wow only in my dreams”? Well not anymore! Vincent and Ambroise from SkyVibration have been working on a truly unique experience – a world’s first, available right here in Interlaken Switzerland – a wingsuit tandem skydive!

Credit Skyvibration

So, how does tandem wingsuit work?

“A wingsuit is a one-piece garment that enables a person to glide through the air when in freefall, having sections of fabric between the arms and legs that inflate when the wearer jumps from an aircraft or a high place.”

Your instructor (who is in control at all times) wears the wingsuit and you are strapped to the front, after a bit of training (nothing too serious) you head up in the helicopter to 14,000ft and jump out. Once you’re out in the air, you and your instructor glide up to 3km distance and reach speeds of 250km per hour (between 1 and 2 minutes of freefal)l – it’s a thrill like no other!

Once the parachute opens, you can then celebrate, relax, take in the scenery and enjoy the canopy flight down to the ground.

What’s the difference between a wingsuit skydive and a normal skydive?

There is a huge difference between a regular skydive and a wingsuit skydive. With a regular tandem, you’ll be travelling vertically, straight down on your belly with the instructor attached above you. With a wingsuit tandem, you are travelling forwards (travelling up to 3km distance) as well as down.

Is Tandem Wingsuit safe?

Safety in skydiving is always the number one priority – the instructors don’t want to get hurt, just as much as they don’t want you to get hurt.

The accident rate for tandem jumps is the lowest of all extreme sports – less than 1 in 1 million jumps. The equipment is certified, approved, and subject to the same rigorous standards and regular checks as in aviation.

For the Tandem Wingsuit, Skyvibration has chosen to use the most modern equipment, for both the parachute and the wingsuit.

  • The tandem wingsuit pilots are the only ones in the world certified for this activity.
  • Skyvibration has demonstrated that the level of safety in Tandem Wingsuiting reaches Excellence, in order to obtain its certifications.
  • The equipment is the most modern available.
  • They have completed more than 300 successful tandem wingsuit jumps already.

Who can Tandem Wingsuit?

The wingsuit tandem is available to everyone over 12 years old (with a certificate signed by both parents for minors) that weigh between 40 and 85 kg. For those over 60 years old, a medical certificate stating that there is no contraindication to tandem skydiving. You must be in good overall health and able to raise the knees to the chest for landing (a medical questionnaire will be completed).

“Fill your life with experiences, not things. Have stories to tell, not stuff to show”

2023 is going to be all about unique experiences, experiences that you will cherish for the rest of your life. A wingsuit tandem from a helicopter, over the Swiss Alps will be an experience of a lifetime – one that is impossible to forget.

If you’re interested in this activity or have any other questions get in touch.
